You cannot convice me this is not the case.
Would be nice to have some sort of suspension though, this trail is brutal.

Are you eight?

completely agree
This was a couple years ago. they wouldn;t let us on the lift with the bikes so we told them they sucked and we road 3 hours to the top of the mountain. looking back we should have picked a different trail to climb that wasn;t a double black diamond. the view was well worth it and was also my first time seeing a moose.

Nice! Thats a lot of sand you are riding through there! Do you ride a lot?

Oh yes, no suspension. My bike is the same way, totally brutal going down hill in rock gardens. Something I really want to figure out if it is feasible would be to go bike backpack camping. I enjoy hiking and camping out on the trail but I wonder if I could apply the same thing to mountain biking. But I feel like carrying gear would be quite impossible.

I definitely have to try lift served downhill biking at some point. I always hate riding up hills for hours just to ride back down it.

Almost every day, rain or shine

Thats some dedication. Is that a commute, or fun? I do a lot of riding for fun, but I avoid riding when it’s too wet. Especially in sand like that. It likes to eat up drivetrains in the wet.

its still pretty exhausting. my hands hurt the most due to the death grip on the handlebars. its fun, and scary.

a near crippling spinal injury nearly convinced me otherwise :P

How did that happen?

Totally agree. I took a long break from it but got back into it around the time we had a second child. Yeah, looking for more things to do! Or, looking for an excusable escape from the civilized world occasionally. All the guys I ride with are dads, and this is our organized excuse to
drink beer in the woods
get exercise together. I didn’t realize how much I missed it... and I only get out a couple days a week at best.

Did you ever take it off of any sweet jumps?

your standard base over apex crash. except I landed on my head and back

A guy I used to mountain bike with would go bombing through the trails pulling a BOB trailer. It can be done.

Cool, where was this picture taken?

Rattlesnake Mountain in Rumney, NH. That area is well-known for rock climbing but there is a nice little hike and an old road made into a series of mt. bike jumps. You can ride a nice little summit loop on the hiking trail (in the picture) and some other good rock/technical stuff around the summit, too.

If it’s wet out I ususally try to keep on the pavement, I had a incident where I fell off the trail and into a stream..

There’s this dude named Craig who knows a lot of people and can probably connect you with some selling used full suspension bikes. IIRC he even has a website that is basically just some lists of things people are selling. Craig’s list, if you will.
In my city there are actually 3-400 new bike listings every day, including kids and road bikes. Lots of junk, but you can find really decent bikes for under $500. Much less if you’re ok with front shocks only.

Cool, I actually live in Gilman, VT. not that far away. I have yet to explore the trails up here, but I know there are plenty of them. I’ll have to make it down there to check out some of those. I have an old Specialized that I am going to build over the winter.

So, you’re near Burke? Oh man that is a phenomenal trail system (kingdom trails). You’re going to want a modern full suspension bike before long if you start riding that area a lot. Ascutney and Stowe are good too, I hear, but I haven’t been to those areas yet.
